Kayak Day Tour to Magdalena Island Sand Dunes – Los Arenales
Overview
This trip is designed for kayakers who value the simplicity and freedom of paddling. Starting at Los Morritos beach in Puerto San Carlos, we’ll cross 6 km to Magdalena Island, reaching one of the island’s narrowest points. A short 200-meter walk connects the bay to the Pacific Ocean, offering uninterrupted views of white sand and water. This remote spot is rarely visited, making it an ideal destination for those looking to experience true solitude and the satisfaction of getting there under their own power.
Our focus is on the paddling journey, the technique, the exploration, and sightseeing.
This is a genuine kayaking trip guided by locals who know and respect the area.

Tour Details
- Availability: Runs all year with at least 24 hours’ notice.
- Price: $65 USD per person.
- Payment: Full payment required before departure. We accept cash, debit, or credit.
- Group Size: Minimum 2 people, up to 12 participants.
Custom Option:
For those looking to focus solely on the island, we can arrange for a panga (motor boat) to transport kayaks and guests across the channel. You’ll kayak along the shoreline and can explore some mangrove channels, then return by boat. (Additional costs apply.)
Itinerary
1. Meet and Prepare:
– Meet at 8:00 AM at our base office in Puerto San Carlos.
– Load equipment and head to Los Morritos beach.
2. Launch:
– A brief safety talk and overview of the gear before launching.
– Paddle 6 km across the channel to Magdalena Island (approximately 1.5 hours).
3. Explore and Recharge:
– Walk to the Pacific side of the island to explore the dunes and enjoy the remote setting.
– Break for a simple but hearty lunch.
4. Optional Paddling:
– Weather permitting, explore the nearby mangroves before starting the return trip.
5. Return:
– Paddle back to Los Morritos and wrap up by around 4:00 PM.
